My god this song (mashup?) is legendary.  I already have an email into DJ Dain finding out how I can get it on my iPod.  I have discovered this just in time for my trip to the Florida Keys–it will be perfect!!

Ripped Tights?

Warning: array_key_exists() expects parameter 2 to be array, boolean given in /home1/es7400/public_html/wp-content/plugins/reaction-buttons/reaction_buttons.php on line 54

Everywhere I look I see young (and not young enough for an excuse) girls wearing ripped tights.  They are usually worn under a skirt or even worse, shorts.  Jean shorts.  Whyyyyyyyy??  How is this a good look?  I suppose it’s an attempt to bring back grunge, but aren’t the flannel shirts enough?  I’m no preppy square, but when you wear ripped tights, you look messy, gross, and dirty.

Call me crazy, but I come from the school of, “if you get a run in your tights, you throw then out.”  It happens to the best of us, and it can happen quite often, but c’est la vie.

And for such a delicate item of clothing, getting a run in tights is usually tragic.  I’m talking a $20 investment on one pair, at a minimum.  So instead of tossing my ripped tights, should I donate them to the Salvation Army?  Normally I would consider that rude (who could possibly benefit from ripped tights?) but now I imagine there is some hipster out in Wicker Park scouring SA’s for such commodities.

Another disturbing look that seems to accompany these tights, is the sheerness of them.  Sheer tights are not a problem, but when you wear them to serve as leggings, they ARE a problem.  I don’t want to see your pale fleshy thigh through ripped tights because you chose to wear a short tunic with them.  You should have chosen leggings.  But I guess those aren’t as easy to rip.

I guess I’ll have to chalk this up to another sad hipster attempt at starting an awesome trend.  Here’s a trend to try–dressing like a normal person instead of dressing like every other hipster in an attempt to show the world your non-conformist views…

There are many versions of songs that I like the cover of better than the original.  Is this sacriligious?  Or does it have something to do with my absolute love of cover songs?  I mean, I could be at any show in the world, and if any band plays any song that is not originally theirs, I will likely go nuts.

So here’s a list of covers I like better than the original (also note, you must have heard the original in order to like the cover better.  Obvious right?  Well, when I was out at college in Ithaca some loser at the paper wrote an article about how Rusted Root had covered Jimi Hendrix’s “All Along the Watchtower” at a concert on campus the night before.  Needless to say, I raged and wrote a strongly worded letter to the editor.  Which I think is still online if you google my name).

ANYWAY:

Phish’s “Loving Cup” always beats The Stones version.

Further, Phish’s “Cities” is on my iPod, while the Talking Heads version is not.  Nor will it ever be.

I dig me some John Prine, but “Angel From Montgomery” will always belong to Dave Matthews in my mind.

Now, this might be really bad–I love Joaquin Phoenix’s “Cry, Cry, Cry” way better than J.R. Cash’s.

And some songs whose covers absolutely blow dogs:

“A” for effort Eric Clapton, but “I Shot the Sheriff” belongs not in the hands of a Brit, but in the hands of a black dreadlocked man named Bob Marley

The Counting Crows absolutely ruined Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi.”

The Byrd’s “My Back Pages” isn’t really that bad but it’s hard to outdo Bobby D on this one…

Are there any cover songs you like better than the originals?

Bonus quote since we’re talking music: “She comes back to tell me she’s gone,
As if I didn’t know that, as if I didn’t know my own bed, as if I’d never noticed, the way she brushed her hair from her forehead, and she said losing love is like a window in your heart, Everybody sees you’re blown apart, Everybody sees the wind blow.” –Paul Simon

Shit.  Okay, here we go…

I am kind of ashamed.  But I must admit, I have joined Twitter.  Well, not I per-say, but my blog has (@how2Bawesome) so follow it up!  That was how I was able to make my peace with this whole thing–I will not be telling you what I had for lunch or what location I “checked in at,” but you will know when new blog posts are up.  And obviously awesome things of note (but only worthy of  a maximum of 140 characters) will be featured.  And it’s an additional way to connect to my readers and/or gain more!

I have been thinking about it for a few weeks because at my internship where I blog, we use Twitter to get more readers.  It’s another way to transmit our information and connect with others, so I have witnessed firsthand the benefits of Twitter if used carefully…

Okay, I think thats enough justification for one day.  See you on Twitter…

I enjoy a good bumper sticker more than your average person.  I think they tell a lot about a person and help me determine who I have to cut off on the road or not. For example, the witty bumper sticker is always the way to go. The Anti-Bush or Honor Roll bumper stickers scream lame and you will be cut off or beeped at. (Remind me to one day blog about how I am bringing horn honking back–seriously when and why did people stop doing this???)

Anyway, an old bf had a bumper sticker that said “The more people I meet, the more I like my dog.”  If that dog had been changed to cat I would definitely be rockin that bumper sticker.  Below, a few of my favorite (and a peek into my Republican-loving lifestyle!):

I had the pleasure of seeing this one in person once and I was dying laughing. Spot on!

I have seen this one before too.  (And to anyone taking notes on what to get me for Christmas…)

Hehehe… too soon? (There’s a similar one that says “if I’m paying your healthcare” too!)

Those crazy Canadians…

Indeed.

Anything that involves beating up hippies is good by me!

This one made me smile!  Cuteness.

I assume this one is only sold to Hummer owners.

Indeed.  Times a million.

Any funny ones you guys have seen out there that I’m missing??  (And by funny I don’t mean the “Re-Elect Gore ’08” ones…)
