There are a few Chicago facts that I love to share with visitors and residents alike:

  • Chicago is not called the “Windy City” for it’s meteorological condition, although this certainly fits.  It is called the Windy City for our famous “long winded” (read: boastful, talkative) politicians.  It should be noted however that there is great debate over what the term actually means as there are many variations.  But this is the story I stick with.
  • O’Hare’s airport initials/code is “ORD” because it was previously known as the “Orchard Place Airport” and subsequently “Orchard Field Airport” before it became O’Hare in 1949.
  • Western Avenue is the world’s longest street.  It is 23 and a half miles long.  I intend to drive the complete 23 and a half miles this summer… stay tuned.
  • The Olympic games will be held in Chicago in the summer of 2016.  Trust me.

Pet Peeve of the Day: At the airport, people who hover around the gate before boarding has been announced

Quote of the Day: “Back where I come from, where I’ll be when it’s said and done, I’m proud as anyone, that’s where I come from” –Kenny Chesney
